Getting the wrong message isn’t funny when it’s a customer on the line. But when I can’t hear them clearly, it’s hard to figure out what they’re having trouble with and how I can help resolve their issue. It’s really frustrating.
And not just for me. It’s even worse for the customer—they feel like I’m not listening to their needs and don’t care about their issue. It affects my manager too, because it takes me twice as long as everyone else to resolve a call, and that throws her numbers off. It’s bad for everybody involved.
It got so bad I worried about losing my job. My manager was always having to talk to me about my productivity. But everything changed when ClearSounds® Workplace Solutions showed up on my desk.
I wear open fit hearing aids with t-coils. I also have a streamer. But because the call center’s system is older it was hard to hear anything clearly on my desk phone. The headset I had to use was monaural (that means it only had one speaker). Hearing aids have two, which makes it a lot easier for me to understand what people are saying. It’s like having to listen to a transistor radio from the 70’s when you have a killer stereo system.
My manager heard about ClearSounds® Workplace Solutions at a conference last year. One of her colleagues told her how about much more productive her employees with hearing loss had become since ClearSounds® helped upgrade their system. A couple of the employees she’d consistently had to meet with over productivity issues had become her highest performing team members.
When my manager got in touch with ClearSounds®, they recommended a system that bypassed the old monaural headset completely. Now I can just use my neckloop to send the conversation directly to my hearing aids (I can even control the volume). I can hear the customer on the line more clearly and solve their issues more efficiently. Now I’m one of the highest performers on my team!

Hearing loss is a silent epidemic and a vicious cycle. The less that we hear, the more frustrating it gets to communicate; the less we communicate, the more we withdraw; the more we withdraw, the more frustrated and lonely we become. Does this sound like a familiar, painful pattern?
That’s the reason ClearSounds® strives to creatively, stylishly, and economically meet the needs of people with hearing loss. For over 30 years we’ve led the way in designing, developing and manufacturing award winning products that change people’s lives.
In addition, ClearSounds® is dedicated to educating kids and teens about noise exposure and hearing loss through outreach and educational programs. Our Teen Hearing Challenge is an educational program we’re developing to work within a high school science curriculum. We want to inspire teens to take care of their hearing by showing them what hearing loss is really like.
We believe that conquering communication barriers leads to a more successful, fulfilling and independent future for people with hearing loss, and we’re dedicated to delivering it to our customers in the most simple and ingenious ways.
If you have ideas, suggestions, comments, we would love to hear from you!
